Mohamed Nasheed - Former President of the Maldives
Ex-President of the Maldives, Mohamed Nasheed, has criticised the lack of action from the Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group in an interview with The Round Table: The Commonwealth Journal of International Affairs.
Speaking with Journal Editor, Venkat Iyer, Mr Nasheed spoke about his detention, relations with India and his frustration over the role of the Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group (CMAG) in looking into his removal from office and the government which replaced his elected administration.
“The CMAG has always been the ‘Ministerial Inaction Group’. Their idea is to find a way of not acting. Bringing the Maldives to the agenda basically means, ‘Okay, we’ve parked it’. If the Commonwealth is to succeed, and it has so many opportunities, it must be more proactive,” he said.
