Elza D’Cruz was the winner of the 2021-22 Routledge/ Round Table Commonwealth Studentship Award. The award is for a PhD student registered at a member university of the ACU outside the UK, providing support for research projects on Commonwealth-related themes.

Elza has prepared a podcast with her mentor Dr. Haripriya Rangan. They discuss Elza’s research during the studentship, especially how gardens are featured in the history of modernisation in India and what home-grown modernity means in the context of gardens in Bangalore.

They discuss the historical analysis of gardens in Bangalore between the late nineteenth and mid-twentieth centuries and how it is relevant to contemporary discussions on urban development, sustainability and planning.
